Using bleach properly will help brighten clothes, remove stains while still maintaining the durability, shape and natural softness of the fabric.

Dressing Well Is One Thing – Wearing Clean White Is Another

Every fashionista has at least one white shirt, a white T-shirt, a white dress – or even an entire outfit made entirely of white. But as we all know, keeping white clothes white is… not easy.

From sweat, fine dust in the air, soap scum to harsh sunlight – all factors cause white fabrics to turn yellow, gray or even “spotty”. When your favorite shirts start to show signs of fading, many people choose to throw them away. But in fact, you can renew them right at home – if you know how to use the right bleach and the right material.

What's in Bleach Powder?

There are 2 main lines on the market:

1. Oxygen bleach

Contains sodium percarbonate, when in contact with water it produces hydrogen peroxide - a mild oxidizer, capable of brightening fabrics, disinfecting and mildly deodorizing. Advantages: safe for most fabrics, does not cause yellowing or thinning of fabric fibers.

Suitable for cotton, synthetic fabrics, light-colored underwear, and baby clothes.

2. Chlorine bleach

Usually sodium hypochlorite – strong bleach, treats heavy stains but is extremely easy to fade, discolor, and even tear fabric if used incorrectly .

Only suitable for 100% plain white cotton, thick fabrics such as towels or kitchen uniforms – not recommended for regular use .

How to Use Bleach Powder Effectively Without Causing Harm

Step 1 – Sort and check materials

Before bleaching, check the garment label to determine if the fabric is suitable. Fabrics that say “No Bleach” or “Only Non-Chlorine” should never be bleached.

If in doubt, try diluting the bleach and dabbing it on the inside edge of the shirt to check for a color reaction.

Step 2 – Dissolve properly

Do not pour bleach directly onto the fabric. Always dissolve the powder in warm water (40–60°C), stir well, and then soak the garment. Wear gloves when handling to protect your skin.

Recommended ratio:
– Oxygen base: 1–2 tablespoons for 5L of water
– Chlorine base: only 1 teaspoon/liter of water

Soak for 15-30 minutes , then rinse with clean water, can rinse lightly with neutral fabric softener.

Step 3 – Rinse again to neutralize and remove residue

Whether it is oxygen or chlorine, after the bleaching step, it is necessary to wash again by hand or machine with mild soap to neutralize the residual chemicals and ensure that they do not remain on the fabric.

Do not dry directly under strong sunlight – high temperatures will cause oxidation residue to fade. Dry in a cool, airy place with light sunlight is best.

Golden Notes When Using Bleaching Powder

  • Do not use on silk, wool, dark or printed fabrics.

  • Do not mix bleach with vinegar, ammonia or other bleaches – it can create toxic gases.

  • For white shirts with printed logos or images, cover the print or do not soak for too long.

Erasing Right Is Keeping Right – From Material to Spirit

A white shirt that lasts a long time, is clean, and doesn't fray - not only shows that you dress well but also shows that you know how to live selectively and with taste .
